Salaried income tax return
Annual return and wealth statement for employees, filed on IRIS with salary and withholding adjustments.
Overview
Your annual income tax return and wealth statement as a salaried or retired person, filed on FBR's IRIS portal. Filing on time keeps you on the Active Taxpayers List (ATL), which cuts the tax deducted on your bank profit, property, car and many other transactions.
Why it matters
Salaried people often think the employer's deduction is the end of it. It is not: you still need to file a return and a wealth statement to stay on the Active Taxpayers List. Filers pay much lower withholding on bank profit, property, vehicles and many other transactions, so a correct return usually pays for itself within the year.
Who needs this
- Employees in government or private jobs, including those whose employer already deducts tax
- Pensioners
- Salaried people who also earn rent, bank profit or small side income
- Anyone who wants filer status before buying property or a car

What happens if I miss a deadline?
Late filers are left off the ATL until they pay a surcharge of Rs 25,000 (s.182A), or give an undertaking not to buy property for six months. No refund is issued while you are off the ATL, and losses can't be carried forward for a late year. Non-filers pay roughly double withholding on bank profit, dividends, property and vehicles.
My employer already deducted tax. Why file?
Deduction isn't filing. Only a filed return puts you on the ATL, and it's how you claim back excess tax on your car, phone or bank profit.
Can you file previous years too?
Yes. We file missed years and handle the ATL surcharge or undertaking where needed.

Do I need to file if my employer already deducts tax?
Yes. Salary tax deducted by your employer is not a return. You must file the return and wealth statement every year to be a filer and to claim any refund.
Can you include bank profit, rent and other income?
Yes. We add every income source shown on IRIS and in your bank certificates, so the return and wealth statement reconcile.
